They all now have a split grill with an optional solid plate. The lid is slightly different and also the legs/frame. The grill is also slightly wider and the porcelain coating is thicker(only way to describe it). The new portable trolley for the 1200 is great compared to the old!!
A couple of new thermometers on the way too and smoking chips and chunks in a couple of different flavors.

In regards to the hotplate, I'd much prefer the griddle plate with the hook legs as these can be taken off the bbq at any time you need the fully grill area or you can take the griddle plate to a table and the hook legs keep the hot cast iron plate off the table service. I just find them to be much better than a half hotplate and will give you more space.

I don't own one (yet) but I think I'd prefer a half and half. I prefer to cook on the solid hotplate, rarely use the grill. What do you guys use the grill for?

 Everything except bacon and eggs. Mate, do up yourself a favour and throw away the plate. You may as well cook in a fry pan. Heat up the grill, chuck on a steak and shut the lid. You won't go back to hot plates.

Yep, you'll get better temperature control out of an elecrtic frying pan! Save the flat plate for when you do pancakes.....even then, just set them and move to the grill so you get good grill marks!...then laugh like hell when your mates ask how you did that!
