Agreed there are other ways to control temp, and if you run your Kamado properly it'll sit on temp perfectly, a bit harder in a Kettle but there are good techniques that work well. I see this as an adjunct, certainly a good tool for someone who is having trouble stabilising temperatures.
Even the best of us can come back to our BBQ after a few hours only to see the temp has gone off target.
