Best way to clean all the ash and gunk out of the inside? Would water and a scrubbing brush be okay or is that a big no no? Also, the broken joins, would a wire brush sort those out okay before gluing?
And the outside, i was just gonna give it a going over with a wire brush(by hand, not machine) just to clean off all the crap and left over paint.
As for paint, thinking of going black base coat and then dark/burnt orange sponged on.
Yours looks a bit worse than my old one, however you might find a post i did in march 2012 under the heading ..Re Kamado seals.. might be of interest. Since the rebuild it has had some hard use and both the repairs and seals are looking good.

Keep water out of it.....you'll have to dry it before you can use it!
Use a really soft brush...test an unseen area first.
Colour sounds good!

Common Sense is so rare these days it should be a Super Power!
Hi we are doing a rebuild also, our lid has broken into many pieces, we have started using Selley's heat cement, the lid has broken into about 8 pieces so is a challenge
However this thread is now 8 years old and all the people involved with this topic have all moved on. no one here anymore except me and maybe a few lurkers lol.
This forum is pretty much a ghost town now.
Cheers
