Ultimate Father's Day present

As I was completing another delicious Kamado feast last night I was thinking that if you don't have a Kamado what a great present for Father's Day. I am guessing the way the aussie dollar is going that the prices of Kamados must go up soon as the local distributors must be running low on old stock b...

Re: Kamado 101 for the newbie

Good stuff! I started a project last year to create a FAQ, but I never had time to complete it & didn't get any input from other forum members. If you want, you are welcome to use whatever useful I put together in your summary. The working doc is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CryW19...

Kamado 101 - Frequently asked questions

I found this forum really great for information to learn how to use a Kamado. I discovered some of things I needed to know I found out by stumbling over them. You don't know what to ask if you don't know. A bit like the chicken and the egg. So to help the new or potential Kamado user/owner, here's a...

Re: Maximum temperatures in a Kamado

Fireplay and Chris, Great hint re: Looftlighter. $40 from Bunnings is a great price when you compare with Amazon where you pay $80 plus shipping costs from the US. The only trick is finding a Looftlighter with it being a promotional line only and not all stores have them. It is quickly solved by a c...

Re: Maximum temperatures in a Kamado

You can run a Kamado at 400+C (750+F), it is safe to do so, the ceramic can handle it no problem....you need to make sure the cook can! Yor need to know how to burp the kamado properly...and there is no room for error or hesitation!...Make no mistake, at that kind of temp it can take a bite out of ...

Maximum temperatures in a Kamado

I was wondering what are the maximum temperatures people have been getting in their Kamados for direct and indirect cooking. Also what are the tricks to getting a hot fire in the 700F/400C and above range and how long is it taking to get there, plus how long are people keeping their Kamados at these...

Re: Smoke King BBQ Kamado

Thanks Gary and Manus,

Useful information.

Gary, no particular question, just a bit curious about what's out there in the Oz Kamado market and what's available to buy locally.

Smoke King BBQ Kamado

I was looking for some Kamado accessories on ebay the other day and I noticed that Smoke King BBQs were selling Kamados. Has anyone tried one? In the picture they look very similar to Bear Grills. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LARGE-CERAMIC-KAMADO-BBQ-WITH-ACCESSORIES-Grill-Charcoal-Smoker-Roast-Pizza-...

Re: Charcoal in Sydney

To help newbies like myself compare different types of charcoal out there and hopefully save some of the hit and miss and cost here's a few photos of the size of the charcoal chunks from Diggers, Kamado Joe and Emberpak. The chunk on the left is the smallest size in the bag, the middle the average s...

Re: Charcoal in Sydney

Being a long time Weber user I've gotten used to buying the 16 KG Heat Beads (4 x 4kg bags in the box) for $22 from Bunnings which is $1.40 per kg. I thought this is a great price when you consider you can pay $10 for a 4KG bag from BBQ Galore which ends up as $2.50 per kg. After reading about how g...
