Checked out the Akorn on the weekend at the local Bunnings and am seriously considering buying one (Father's Day pressie ). I bought a q320 some months ago and have really enjoyed cooking on that but now want to also explore the world of charcoal cooking, both hot (pizza, steaks) and low/slow roasts.
Been considering an OTG but now thinking of an Akorn. OTG + cover = Akorn $. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread and am intersted in hearing what others think of the Akorn? Cheers
They have made it to Adelaide!! I am shocked lol! Look pretty good. The one I seen could do with a once over on all nuts and bolts! I like the cast iron grill.

Bit of a cheap unit , but looked after it should be good for a few years,
I believe the soft point will be the cast grate, drop it , it will break.
Mines held a 200c ( by the thermo ) for 4 hours with a mix of general crap left overs to season the unit.

For those interested these have made their way to Victoria.
I picked up one at Cranbourne Bunnings today.
About an hour to assemble, fit and finish is not too bad, had a little hassle getting the seal to fit even and flush on the top vent to the dome....otherwise all good.
Feels relatively sturdy, no wobbles, will see after a,few heat cycles.....
Will give it some heat tomorrow to season and experiment with the vents.
I thought the bundled cover and a massive stone deflector was a nice touch !

I'm contemplating picking one up tomorrow. Could someone please advise what is the usable area / diameter of the main cooking grate and the "balcony" rack?
I'm wondering if I'll be able to fit my 33cm round pizza stone on the top rack and the 38x33cm rectangular pizza stone on the bottom rack.

@ peteru, as a reference point for you, I just cooked off what I believe was my best pizza effort to date.
Loaded my charcoal into two Weber charcoal baskets, which fit perfectly into the base of the Acorn, large stone deflector in place, pizza stone on the cooking grill and a Aldi pizza stone on the warming rack above.
Fire started, slowly brought the temps up to 400F, stabilised the temp to hold steady at 400, Pizza went in, opened all vents to full.
Pizza in for about 5 min, then pulled it and put it in on the top stone while a second fresh pizza went in on the lower stone.
Couple of minutes later pulled the top pizza out and the bottom got the flick to the top stone.
Temps only dropped to about 375F with the change overs, and both pizzas were absolutely fabulous, perfect crust and toppings seared just right...
I love the idea of using two stones in the Acorn, as you get that nice radiant 'thermal' sandwich , and you can run a batch of pizzas in a cycle......
New to forum and Kamado style cooking. Bought this cooker from Bunnings two weeks ago and love it. I thought the build quality was excellent. Comparing it to weber q's only, have not seen any other kamado's.
Anyway have done beer chicken with hickory, came out excellent. Did 8 x pizza for family and friends on the weekend and wow, best pizza ever, did them only two stones and each pizza was only in for 4 minutes. Really impressed.
