Firmware Update GMG Davey Crockett
After much tribulation and trouble, here is my method.
1) Get 2 x iPhones or iPads. Place them as close as possible to the grill, I put them on top of the pellet box. This makes for faster downloads.
2) Connect to the grill via point to point on one iPhone
3) Enter the second iPhones details under Wifi Mode in the Settings section.
4) When you hit the update grill button it will disconnect the point to point and connect to the second iPhone via the home network function automatically.
5) Hopefully once downloaded you get "suc" on the front of the grill.
6) Unplug and replug and the grill will count up to 99 and reset itself.
7) If at anytime you can't connect via point to point unplug and replug whilst holding the food button down, after 15 seconds it will count to 999 and go back to point to point.
You can check the firmware version by plugging in whilst holding the up button or via a dummy update and it will tell you the current version during the setup.

Re: Firmware Update GMG Davey Crockett
Jeez Damianpyro, that just seems so complicated having to set up something like this.....I think i'd much prefer not having this sort of technology if it's going to be a PITA to keep updating.
Yeah maybe you can set up a program but I like having some kind of input and i'll only ever have the bbq on if i'm at home...no way will I'd see the need to grill when at work. But that's just me.
When I had my Traeger 075 pellet grill, yes it was the most simplest of machines to run.....only had a 3 speed thermostat....smoke/Med/ Hi and that gave me some of the best bbq I've ever made.....I then put in a digital thermostat and I was not happy with the performance at all......it would not stay at the temp it was set for even though I attached a permanent probe into the chamber.....so for me I guess...simple is best....I'm not a techno freak....can't keep up.
Cheers

I like the new firmware, now the grill runs a light blue smoke the whole time, not massive smoke or no smoke like it used too.
runs heaps more efficiently too.
V5.8 Hot setting.

+1 that Damian.
Never had an iAnything so I'll take you word on the method.
The "Hot" firmware is the right choice for Australia. "cold is for Snow!

How can this be done to a non-WiFi model?
Or should I just buy the WiFi upgrade from U/G?

You can't upgrade a non-WiFi controller.....I did suggest to GMG a while back that a USB port would be a good thing but....Have not seen it yet......WiFi is the future!

I'm pretty sure I read something a little while ago that they only make the wifi controller now and don't make the non-wifi one anymore. Even if you only use it in manual mode, the controller updates are worth it to reduce pellet consumption and improve heat distribution etc etc.urbangriller wrote:Hi Mixin,Mixin wrote:How can this be done to a non-WiFi model?

Looks like I'll have to put a new Wi-Fi controller onto the birthday list for next year (Christmas is already done & dusted)

Re: Firmware Update GMG Davey Crockett
Managed to update it. Its V5.9 now. No option seen for hot or cold. Also was able to do it on an old Iphone 4 so they must of fixed that problem. A wifi extender helped big time.
