Whoah! Where?

At that price, I'm going to try to get one for myself. "What, this old thing?" can work both ways :D

Wollongong. Quite a few more on the shelf. It will probably drop again. It was 499, 399, 300 and now 210.

That is a steal! I wouldn't wait for them to drop more in price.

I can still give it a try if anyone is keen?

By the way.. does anyone know if the redheads robot turds will be suitable?

Bunnings have stocked red heads turds for years, well before the Akorn came along so I see no reason why they would stop. But it's an expensive way to buy charcoal.

I've gotta stay away from this thread... I'm meant to be saving for a trip to Japan to meet the gf's parents... Can imagine the death stares I'll get if I turn around and say I've spent money on another BBQ instead of putting the cash towards a plane ticket :?

oh that's what I mean - I can get them (at a cost). Just wondering how they burn in the unit. (Up until now I've only been a Weber Kettle user).

That said, I'll get Emberpak to deliver me a bag of lump quick sticks!

Niko, lump is the way to go in Kamados. I've never tried robot turds and I imagine they'd work, but whether they'd give the same flavour or temp control as lump I couldn't tell you.

Komodo Kamado (the Rolls Royce of Kamados) recommends their own brand coconut robot turds instead of lump in their kamados so there is no reason not to use them. They have very low volatiles so if you want any smoke flavour you will need to add some flavour wood - this helps you to create the smoke flavour profile you want rather than deal with what is present in the lump. Personally I would just buy whatever charcoal works and is cheapest!
