Hogsy, how long do you think a 10kg pig would take to cook on a spit? Probably going to have to organise an open spit.

5kg Piglet
This right here is why I'm cutting some kegs this weekend to make a nice long spit home away from home for piggies this summer. Can't wait.

I think the last one we did was 15kg and took 3-4hrs.
Just make sure you leave plenty of time to prep it on the rod and to carve and serve

Re: 5kg Piglet
Hi Nath,
I haven't done a spit for a few years now, but from memory, I would allow at least 4 hours. You may need to crank up the heat in the last 30 min and you'll get your crackle, even if you have to pause the spit to get the heat into sections which have not yet crackled up.

EDIT:
Found this:
Knowing when your spit roast is ready
Cooking time will vary depending on the diameter and weight of your spit roasted meat, however as a guide:
Small roast 15cm diameter - 2.5 hours
2kg chicken – 2.5 hours
Roast 25cm diameter – 4 hours
10kg lamb/pig- 4 hours
15kg lamb/pig- 5 hours
20kg lamb/pig- 6 hours
2kg chicken- 1.5hours

It also depends on the weather and the charcoal, I've had a 15kg ready in 3 hours and one ready in 6. Prepare early, you can always reduce the fuel to keep it warm if ready early

Picked it up off gumtree for $300 in box. Barbe chef. Or something barbeques galore model.
No way I'd pay $500 for it. It's not a bad spit but looks like cheap stainless and the rod is just tube.
Anyway, I'm looking at the pig now not the spit
