First roast on Sunday and I got a leg of lamb, tips ?

Post by Brewerbbqer »

I thought I'd do a 2.5kg leg of lamb for my first roast in the weber kettle. Reading up here, low n slow is the best way for a leg. Does this mean I need to do a snake etc?

My plan is as follows

1.) make a snake

2.) Get 6 or 7 beads going in the kettle

3.) when going add the lamb.

4.) wait 4 hours then stick the thermometer in

5.) check every hour after that

When around 75c, take off, foil and stick in the esky

Look ok?

Bit of a rookie error grabbing a leg of lamb I think haha.

You've probably bought the wrong cut for low'n'slow. Lamb shoulder works better, as it's a fattier piece of meat, and the fat breaks down to give that moist, pullable texture.

For lamb leg, just use a full chimney of heat beads, put the leg in when it's at maximum heat. Should take 45 mins to an hour, depending on how pink you like it.

Coat the skin in oil and a bit of salt / rosemary for a couple of hours beforehand if you can. Slivers of garlic stuffed into cuts sliced in the meat gives great flavour, too.

Remember to post pics, both before and after.

Ah ok cool, that sounds a lot easier then! I'll just cook as I would for the oven then. I've got a meat thermometer so I'll go by that.

Pics ok no worries :)

Yep go with warm beers suggestion. You can cook a leg slow but for mine it's better as a traditional roast.

I agree, You can do a Leg with the snake, but it won't pull, it's just a slow roast....still good though.

For Pulled Lamb get shoulder!

45 mins to cook?. Or to heat up the beads?. Normally a 2.5kg roast in the oven takes more than 45mins. I always hit it with garlic and rosemary, match made in heaven haha.

Cheers guys

Yep, a 2.5kg leg should take hr & half (90mins) to get to medium - thereabouts.

Ha, you can tell how long it's been since I've actually cooked in my weber :)

Went well, though I left it a bit too long and it was a little dry. I like it moist and juicy haha. Will do again, and hope to work out how to post pics so I can add some here!
