need fast help with bolar roast

Post by Meat and eat »

Hi guys and others :)
Got so used to using wizmos, gizmos, thermapens and the like I forgot how to go manual.
How crazy is that!!

I have a 1.15 kilo beef blade bolar roast to put on in the baby Q today with no meat thermometers to use. Just the one on the baby Q lid.
Can all you manual gurus advise pleeeeaassseee how long at what temp to do to just on med after it has rested.

Of course I will be using foil and trivet. Hmmm, don't even have my tuna cans here!!!

Thanks all and everybody.
I've been busy and away and it's nice to have a post back on here again :)

Cheers (a bit late but Happy New Year to all)

Lets see...about a 2.5lb Bolar (my internet research tells me close to what I would call a top round roast). If it is lean, and from pictures on line it looks that way, 500°F (260C) for 20 minutes to get a crust then turn down to 350°F (176C) for about 2.5 hours. Tough gig with no probe. It should come out of oven at about 125°F internal temperature, after about a 40 minute rest at those cooking temperatures it should be about 135°f (58C) IT and that is a nice medium rare! This is all assuing it is going from fridge to oven. If it is room temperature, I would knock off 30 minutes.

Good luck!

I cut in at 80 minutes and it was near medium so took it off then and rested. I used your temperatures and room temperature meat, So it came out quite nice in the end,
Thanks again Bentley for the great help.

Cheers
