Apparently there are not many Vidalia grown outside of Georgia USA... Was hoping perhaps somebody had found a local large sweet onion variety to potentially use in a Bloomin and beyond?

Will be interested to know if they are any good, and available in Melbourne. By the way, what is the recipe for what is in the photo? It looks fantastic!

That's not mine unfortunately camida. I bought one of the onion cutters back from the states and have yet to give it a go. Discovered the bloomin at the local outback steak house in Fort Lauderdale and have always wanted to have a go. I'm on the hunt for a good batter and dip recipe....

These are also known as the "awesome blossom" or "Texas tumbleweed". May help with your search.

If you have luck sourcing the onions, would love to hear about it! Bloody fantastic way to eat onion :D

Sharky, Just so happens I spotted a fruit shop on machinery drive selling large sacks of onions the size of big grape fruits. I should have picked up a bag. I dont know if they are sweet or hot.
I might pick up a sack tomorrow just to find out. If they are sweet you can spot me half as there is way more than I can use in one bag (I guess 10-15 kg Maybe 20)
Regardless, They are big enough to make that flower dish

They went well, thanks again for those smokey. Not sure what actual variety they were but very close to a vidalia.
