Noob armed with a weber kettle

Post by Brewerbbqer » Wed Aug 26, 2015 2:00 pm

Hey guys, noob here. Got sick to death of gas barbecues, especially the cheap shit steel they use for the plates, so have bought myself a weber one touch, the model without the fancy ash catcher. I may end up making one myself if I really need one.

Looking forward to cooking many roasts and steaks on the weber. Been reading up heaps, and once this rain goes away I'm going to crank it up!

Cheers

No matter what else I have, its still my favourite. The rotisserie is a great addition too. Best charcoal chicken ever.

A great bunch here and I have learnt a lot from them.

Welcome to the forum and look forward to hearing about your cooks.

Don't forget the low 'n' slow. Weber kettle is a great starting point for beginners

Great point check out the snake method, I wish I'd heard of this when I just started out, easy way to get steady heat control.

Cheers guys, I'm pretty good at doing pulled beef in the oven ( big chunk of brisket ). Be a bigger challenge in the kettle though. Like the idea of the maverick thermometers. I reckon they'd take a lot of guesswork out of it. Looking around, a chuck roast might be more forgiving for my first roast.

Might break it in with just some snags and chicken breast this weekend.

Virgin cook today. Fired it up with a sacrifice to the beer gods ( golden ale ). Just got some snags and a boerworst from woollies. Prefer butcher but if it goes horribly wrong it's no big loss haha.

Yum!. Went well, I think I was a little impatient with waiting for heat beads to be hot, but nothing I couldn't fix by blowing on the beads and waiting a bit longer. Ended up throwing a chicken breast on which came out very nicely.

Very glad!
