Cooking oil

Post by Applegarth »

I've been cooking on a gas burner and on a Weber Q200 using olive oil.
I remember someone on the forum saying olive oil is not necessarily the best oil to use on a BBQ.
Couldn't find the post.
Bought some grape-seed oil because it is in a glass bottle not plastic.
Is grape-seed oil suitable for BBQ cooking ?

I always use rice bran oil as it has a very high smoke point, be aware using Olive oil on the grill, not a fan as it has a much lower smoke point and can have an aweful taste if it gets too hot. I'm trying to find the right word but it escapes me....

I do like using extra virgin Olive oil on veggies but only after I've grilled them and never on the hotplate or grill bars.....but any vegetable oil or rice bran oil or canola is ok to use on the bbq as they have a higher smoke point. Can't comment on grapeseed oil, I think i've used it many years ago but can't remember results.

Thanks Davo,
I'll use Rice Bran oil instead of Olive oil.

Yeah applegarth, I think you'll like the results using rice bran oil

Get the alpha aplha brand either in sprays can or bottle. I use both but sprays is good for hotplates and grill bars.
