titch,
to get the best quality pears which are juicy with no grittiness, they need to be picked when mature but not ripe. Refrigerate for a period of time then out to ripen at room temp.
They will be smooth as butter, creamy texture and no grit.
Pears ripen from center outwards and left on tree will generally rot before fully ripe.

PS do you need garlic for planting

How's these apples

Image

The apple at the back is a standard size Gala from woolies.
The 2 front apples are an old variety called Alexander grown on dwarf root stock.

It has been a good year for fruit and not too much trouble with birds.
Even still have a good crop of walnuts on the tree. Cockies haven't taken all of them like they usually do.
Blood peaches are next cab off the rank.

Hi groovy g,
The blood peach is a very old variety which you can't buy here. A guy at work had a tree on a property he bought off an elderly Italian couple. I grew mine from a peach stone and as it's such an old variety it has grown true to type which you can't do with modern hybrids.
Search Indian Blood Cling for images. Only really found in the US and France.

I googled and was excited
They look excellent do they have a great flavour (I bet they do)

With a full grown tree and some air layering cuttings or grafting, which will be true to the original, you have a botanical gold mine.
both money and botanical/agricultural value
