Commercial Oven Transport to QLD from NSW

Post by mb403 »

hey guys,

not sure if this is the right place or not..

Short story is this. My best friend bought a bakery at West End in Bris and he has an commercial bread oven that is in Sydney or more precise somewhere in Miranda that needs to be moved into the bakery in West End. Does anyone on here work in transport? I myself work for a local transport company here in Bris but we dont have much influence down south. We use Hopper Trans to bring pallets of parcel freight into our depot from NSW but ive yet to inquire with them. (Wait for Monday)

The problem i have is this, the oven is 1347(L)x2240(W)x2070(H) and weights in a 1300KG and is not packed on a pallet or anything and its in need of being palletised/packed ready for transport. Old mate tells me there is a Forklift on site but no one is willing or is able to load it onto a truck or pack it ready for transport. Now when it gets to bris i can arrange a forklift to be onsite and i can unload it personally. Now i have a Fork ticket and a HR license but not really keen to use 3 days of my xmas break to hire a truck and drive down and bring it back, nor is it looking cost effective.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of:
1. Trans company that can do this kinda work and,
2. Someone that would be willing to give up some time to pack and ready this baby for transport or point me to a company that would do both and have no probs with their driver being able to load this themself? Of course im sure we can work out some monies etc. Our time frame is 27.12.14 - 31.12.14.

2nd option is that Hopper Trans agree to send it up to bris to my depot but ive still got to get someone to pack and ready it for transport then have it picked up and dropped at there depot in Revesby i think it is at.

Any helpfull tips advise or insight would greatly appreciated.

cheers,
Liam

What about contacting the company that sells these ovens new (even if newer models). They must be used to transporting them around...

Try Doser Freight. We used to use them for sending pallets up to Maroochydore. A few times when they've turned up at our warehouse, they had some oversized freight on the truck.

Any machinery removalist will be able to move that.
They are usually under specialised transport

My advice is for your friend not to become tight when it comes to do a specialised transport job. You need a fairly large company with presence in both areas for this transport solution. There should be no corner cutting here because 1300kg oven can cause injury or death if handled incorrectly and not to mention the damage to the unit.

The oven will have to be Hi-ab lifted and place and secured on a pallet...that takes a specialist truck with Hi-ab crane and experienced personell. Then it'll have to be transported to Brisbane which is good coz I think Toll have a depot out that way somewhere, then delivered and Hi-ab crane lifted and however they place such devices into a building but even if it costs 2 grand, it'd still be a piece of mind.....it's just a cost of doing business and buying used from a non-sales premises. I only mentioned a company like Toll as I have worked for them in the past and just about have all facets of transporting machinery and heavy stuff covered.

If he was to lease or buy new or 2nd hand from a dealer, then the dealer would sort it out as they have the means. Whichever way, transport of anything like that is not cheap and should not be treated as such.

Cheers

Thanks again for the replys.. i didnt think about hi ab lift (thanks davo) for this job, ive had a look at the bakery where it is to be deliverd and the only way i could see it being deliverd is having the truck parked on the street and being fork unloaded and moved inside. But in saying that being loaded onto a truck (hi ab) could work but i havnt seen the pick up address in person. He was qwoted about $2800+ to transport to bris but the driver wouldnt load it onto his truck or wasnt interested in doing anything else but driving. Fair enough i guess!

If i hire a truck and drive down, pick up and bring it back im looking at $1800 inc fuel and 3/4 days of my time. The current owner has told him that it was originally unloaded by the fork onsite.

Anyways i havnt looked at any specialized transport companies yet but that makes sense lol. Toll had pretty much said they were not interested in doing it especially after they were told it wasnt on a pallet or anything which i dont blame them lol. As you can see there are a few problems i have to sort out before it even gets onto a truck lol.
