Just a few recent pandemic grilling sessions
Yeah well I'm kinda stuck at home during my annual holidays during lockdown, so to save my sanity, the Weber Performer has been getting a bit of a workout lately.
Most were done on the Performer kettle and some we done on the Master touch Plus (deep ocean blue)
As you might realise that i like using the centre of the kettle for grilling and high heat roasting around the sides, I find this to be a great way to grill and roast and the same time.
By using either the Kettle Kone for a targeted and very hot range or even the Charcoal baskets for a broader heat range although you can turn the kone upside down so that the wider end is facing up.
Also you notice that I'm often using the cross checked Gourmet grill grate in the centre as well as the griddle pan...these 2 pieces of kit are fantastic to use....Love it!!
I'm a bit over low n slow
So these have been done in no particular order during the past few weeks.....

Hahaha Titch....I absolutely love grilled Brussel Sprouts and so does the Mrs, these ones were just plain grilled but usually we lather them in miso paste and bonito flakes after they come off but we've ran out of both, so it's just good ol salt n pepper.
I usually cook a lot of veggies on the grill, it's the best way to eat em.
These sprouts are frozen from the packet, I just place them on the side till they thaw and soften out then a few minutes over the charcoal constantly moving them around the get even char....a whole packet don't last long in my house, between the 2 of us, they're goneski

What a feast!
I have one of those cast iron smoker box too!
It's good to see the Weber Kettle still going strong.
They're a real good piece of BBQ kit that lasts for ages.
People are pretty wound up with stuck home with the lockdown. Good to see you getting through with some excellent BBQ.

Yeah 12 x 7, I've had it for years and it's still awesome, it was sort of sitting in a pile of dust in the garage so I gave it a bit of a dust off, put some loose scrappy woodchips that was at the bottom of a wood chunk bag (waste not want not) and it smoked nicely.
It's good to see the Weber Kettle still going strong.
Yeah my old 2007 "sage" Weber Performer needs a bit of a revamp, starting to show it's use and age but still does the job well. I need to replace the table and the wheels but the frame is still in good nick. I'll get a new pair of charcoal baskets for it too. Mine is the Gas start model. I stopped using the gas starter a long time ago because a gas cylinder is around $13 and only lasted for 10 starts before empty, the firelighters were cheaper.

Yes mate and is why I love them so much, I get such joy with just tinkering around with it, using different set ups but still love getting back to basics. Sometimes with BBQ, we overthink it sometimes.

It's the time in between BBQs is hard to manage.....I've over it, well and truly. I'm so looking forward to going to a pub or RSL and just sit down and enjoy a nice cold schooner glass of my favourite beer.....a Resches

It's been a long time when I heard someone ask for a Resches. I guess you remember the days when Tooth's had a brewery down at Broadway.
BBQ was simpler back then. A gas BBQ was a few burners under a cast iron plate. You could BBQ at the park with a few sticks you found. If you were really fancy you had a Weber kettle. The footballers would work during the week in their normal job and don their jersey on the weekend and worked their way up from juniors to seniors to first grade in their local club.
At the pub you could listen to live music. Even go down to Coogee and have a drink at Coogee Bay Hotel and listen to some of Australia's finest pub bands.

I grew up in Newcastle suburbia, I remember Tooths having their famous KG gold cans, wasn't a bad beer back in the 70's then it turned to shit. Dad always mostly drank Tooheys new, sometimes Resches DA (which is still a bloody good beer) We never used to get much interstate beer back then till the late 70's perhaps XXXX but never Fosters or VB. We had a big Besser Block wood BBQ in the back yard that Dad carried home in a VW Beetle from Long Jetty (Central Coast) , the exhaust pipes were almost scraping on the ground. plus we had one of those little Aluminium round plate Gas BBQ with just a single gas burner underneath. We used to take it up to Anna Bay in the Caravan.
In Newcastle we had the Belair Hotel which had some great bands and in the Newcastle City we had the Star hotel which Cold Chisel used to play often. Silverchair was a famous Newcastle band as was Atlantis, Thunderbirds, DV8, Heroes and Rabbit. back in the 70's.....those were the best days ever....the 70's & 80's were the best decades for pub bands.

About 50 years ago( I think )I had to go to the Cross to bring a person back to Melbourne
Once over the Border, the signage started
Resches refreshes
resches Dinner Ale, on and on.
Arrived at the Hotel I was staying in and across the road to the Pub
Ordered a Resches and promptly spat it out
The Tooheys was Good but the resches

I guess everyone is different, I do the same with VB nah not really but it's not my cuppa tea that's for sure.....
I do like the Japanese Lagers, especially Kirin Megumi, but I gave one to my nephew and he chucked it across the yard, I said all ya had to do is say you didn't like it.......he said he just liked to emphasise the point
The worst beer I've ever had was South Australia's WEST END, when Tooheys went on strike once many years ago back in the 80's, our local RSL imported a truckload of West End.....BLOODY HELL That stuff would kill a brown dog ....but we persevered and we had little choice but as you know, after the first 5, then you forget the first taste and it's on for all.... when Tooheys came back on, the West End was selling for 20c a schooner and I got totally smashed for under $3.00 hehehe

Those were the days before all the amalgamations and foreign ownership of the breweries. Each state had their iconic beers. You could tell where you were from by what beer you drank and what football code you followed.
I got strangest looks asking for a middy at the pub in Melbourne when I was working down there. They could tell straight away I was one of them outsiders from NSW. I had some of the best pub meals in Melbourne.

Yeah it's a real foodie joint down there, love Melbourne.
Looks like the Bloody states are divided once again and it's not over beer or footy...but now it's don't let those Covid NSW people in or Gladys's mob, we've become the meat in between 2 political sandwiches both being Labor.
I'd be hopeless in Victoria, I have absolutely no understanding of the rules of AFL and is why I still call it aerial ping pong
But back to beer, I'm finding many of these boutique type beers are as sweet or sweeter as the cans they come in.
I like a Malty type beer and one that won't bloat. I'm no Qlder but i do regularly drink XXXX Gold, it's a bit malty and goes down well. I also enjoy a good robust stout too, Tooheys old, Guiness and Kilkenny. (meal in a can)
I'm no Beer connesiur that's for sure but those newer beers that have come on the market recently are too fruity and too sweet, it's as if they're trying to attract women into beer instead of that alcoholic lolly waters. I do however like Great Northern and James Squire fifty lashes.
