Scotch Fillet over Charcoal

Post by Powderdigit »

Howdy - I was inspired by a reverse sear thread earlier today. No - I did not reverse sear here .... but I did cook some scotch fillets on the Weber kettle for dinner. Here's a few photo's.

It all worked well - perhaps over done for many but my wife and kids like it medium as opposed to medium rare. Tasted great - steaks were cut by the butcher at my direction - about 36 mm - a good size without being too thick. They were at room temp and I salted and oiled before placing them over direct heat.

The Weber gasser is covered up today - back to the kettle for these steaks.

I started them over direct heat on the coals - then swapped the snags on to direct, while the steaks cooks through

Taking in all that smoky goodness... my wife is glad the clothes are not on the line!

Just medium - a tad over done for most

Hi louwings ... fiiine indeed. :D For ease, I generally go the gas bbq during the week, just for ease of use a bit quicker than the charcoal kettle. I have little doubt you'd bang food like this out mid-week for sure.

Spot on 12x ...very relaxing .. I do not have the coin at present but talking about Sunday arvo's with the family ...your Sunday arvo comment made me think... I ran into a lady at Baker's Delight recently - she was buying that store out of pizza bases, I enquired and she mentioned that she loved these bases and her family enjoy wood fired pizzas all Sunday arvo... beer and pizzas .. I'd love a proper pizza oven. Just no budget at present!

That looks amazing... mmm steak.
I'm waiting for Bunnings to do a special on their akorn ... That should do me for midweek steak cooks instead of my gasser...

Searching on the internet for kettle and pizza you might get the thought you need a fancy accessory to cook pizza using a kettle.

While you are waiting for a pizza oven. Have a look at this for some pizza inspiration using the kettle.
