Aaaargh!
Fair dinkum - last night I cooked some ripping fillet steak on the kettle ... chicken sticks and sausages too. The meat was some of the best ever - family loved it - simple oil/salt/pepper on steaks - direct heat each side and then indirect heat slightly charred on outside-almost perfect medium - flavoursome with a hint smoke.
Why the aaargh? I have just decided to get a gasser - I now I procrastinate ... charcoal is sooo good - gas I sooo easy ...
Both options will be a luxury (for me - standard for others I guess) but wow - am I enjoying charcoal cooking.
Why am I posting this .... just venting to the masses

Re: Aaaargh!
The beauty of having both are options....yes Gas is quick and not so bad, sometimes we folks can be a bit snobbish when it comes to the norm, but having a gas option can be helpfull. I think as 12 x 7 has said a few times about having a Gas Grill during times of firebans where charcoal use will be completely outlawed during times of high fire times....so there goes that option, any solid fuel will have a use ban untill the ban is lifted.....so that's where gas comes in.
You don't need a big flashy gasser to do the job, all I got is a Weber Q320 family Q that'll cook for a reasonable crowd, then I have my Weber Kettle performer...that's it now as I recently sold my WSM smoker but these 2 BBQs will handle anything I will likely cook as theres only me and the Mrs here. I used to have 6 BBQs at one time but was complete overkill so they were sold off....but having one of each just gives you a few options, taste wise as well as having a good back-up. Having just my kit, I have enough to entertain up to 20 people and it's unlikely that'll happen in the distant future.
Cheers

Re: Aaaargh!
I've used many a Gas BBQ in my time from 4 Burners from Big W (was actually a Rinnai..good flat top and grill) I've had a big Monster 6 Burner that used more Gas than a V8 Supercar then there's my Weber Q's...well what can I say, I've had the small babyQ120, then Moved up to the 220 and after my brief affair with the Gas Guzzler, I got me a Q320 Family Q and haven't looked back...These things Rock, never had a bad meal out of it, never had a disaster although the 220 had a major Fat fire but it survived all except the lid light..it melted
I just would not be happy unless it was a Weber, been using them now for 15 years or more...still as good and robust as the day I bought them.

Hi All - not worth a seperate thread but just a quick note to say it’s BBQ month on SBS TV in October - not saying all the shows are good but some are fun ... I’m watching a cook off at present ... just FYI if you’re interested.

Re: Aaaargh!
I tossed out my gasser replaced it will a griddle pan on a 2 burner gas stove
The gas stove is more practical I do most of my cooking outside in Qld
And uses less gas to cook a steak than a 4 burner
Have weber and a hibachi for charcoal depending on if I need a lid or just grilling for 2

Re: Aaaargh!
Cheers Groovy G ... I find myself cooking for extended family quite a bit - so space and flexibility to cater for all sorts of tastes and quantities will help me. I'm looking forward to the charcoal (existing kettle) and gas option... and I am kinda coming around to a hibachi on the side ... for when I am just cooking a great piece of meat for my wife and I. First things first - I will be doing a deal on the Weber this weekend and will post pictures when it arrives.

Well - deal done! Weber e440 LX Premium ... with heaps of added accessories. Looking forward to delivery sometime next week I hope. So, after much discussion with members here and procrastination by me - I finally decided and it feels good. I’ve still got my charcoal Weber kettle option and now a fully flexible natural gas unit. Somewhat broke but happy. Cheers all.
