Stronger smoke flavour

Has anyone tried running a 'smoker box' from one of those typical bbq shops with woodchips to pull a more smokey flavour in there pellet grills?
Im running a GMG, and for me, personally, I prefer more smoke. Now I understand the GMG leaves the right amount of smoke flavour, but I simply like a little more.
Im not sure how this would work, maybe run pellets in the box, hit them with a blow torch to get them smouldering? or woodchips? i dont know. Either way ill probably have a crack with those flavourful pellets first

Thanks

Hi Mate,

Yes you can, I know guys who use a tube smoker and they work well.

What temp are you cooking at?

There are other ways of getting more smoke ...

Cook at a lower temp

put your meat in cold

use Oak pellets

Cheers, Dave

Good onya Dave, thanks for the reply.

Thats a fair point, i tend to run it hotter these days 120c. My next cook ill drop back down to 105c not just for more smoke but i think these small aussie cuts can probably do better with a longer slower cook to assist with rendering.....

Hi Mate,

A lot of the pellet grill owners run an Amazen tube smoker for more smoke:

It works quite well because of the combustion fan inside the GMG helps provide airflow inside that keeps the pellets smouldering and produce constant smoke.
