Yeah, that should be stuck to the top of the "Where to Buy" thread.

Too many people don't understand the difference.

Chris
I agree Chris, only yesterday I had a guy call in & but Pellet Grill fuel pellets for smoking in a tray.

Maybe Davo could make it a sticky ???

Interesting , I've used Fuel pellets in a smokai cold smoker for hams and fish and I could not fault it :?:
They all had a great hickory flavour.

Mick, if you are happy with the result then that's great, Pellet Grill Fuel is way cheaper than Flavor Pellets

Flavor Pellets in theory should be allot stronger being 100% Flavor wood & no Oak in the mix.

OK cool,
I must like Oak hickory blend and the lighter smoking woods.
That does not surprise I suppose as I really am a great fan of Beech chips and often chuck a handful of 6mm chips in the hopper.

The other thing that effects the outcome is the container, in something relatively sealed like a ProQ or WSM the smoke exposure is different to adding smoke from a tube, tray or a generator like the smokai to pellet grill where the smoke is being pushed out.

When I have used my Tray or Tube Smoker in my Pellet Grill I did not have the Pellet Grill running, not even plugged in & it drew nicely.

Hi Robbo, ha-ha, wasn't going to name you, lol. You are very welcome mate, anytime.

If you read above Smokey Mick likes the smoke from Pellet Grill Fuel Pellets ( & he knows his cue ) , like the ones you got off me yesterday. So Maybe the Cherry Pellets will have enough flavor for you... please let us know what you think after you have used them.

Thanks Chris, I can understand what you mean about slow smoke house smoke and one that is flowing with or without heat.

And thanks Dave (blush) Kind words indeed.

Never one to say never, I will have a go at these flavour pellets and see if I can incorporate them into a new batch of whiskey smoked salmon and triple smoked hams I have planed for the coming weeks before I loose the cold weather.
Shayne has come up with what sounds like a cracker ham cure that I just have to try.

You are welcome Mick, I just tell it how it is.

We are currently looking at importing smoking flavor pellets from the US, does anyone have any thoughts on these wood flavors & preferences

C'mon guys, so much politeness and love in the room. Are you trying to do me out of a job ? Or maybe I'm in the wrong forum ?

I've added a link to the first post in the Where to Buy thread which directs them to Dave's information on what type of pellet is used for a particular purpose.

Bourbon barrel is a no brainier.
Herbed pellets for some strange reason have a following but I can't stand them. Kind of smells like burning lawn grass to me.
Beech would be the butchers pick , And Mine but don't know what joe public would think of them as they don't have a fancy name that Aussies associate with, Europeans however, do
Hark do the chips and they are favourite for most butchers that bother to make real hams and other small goods.
The flavour that comes from beech I'd hazard a guess is the most used by professionals.

Yes Mick,

Beech is what most European smallgoods makers use, it's different in the US where Hickory rules, but that is heavier, here the "pioneer" cookbooks have mallee, redgum and box as the choice for bacon.

Thanks Guys.

I was thinking the "Rosemary,Thyme & Basil" may be good for Lamb, just as long as the Rosemary stood out ...

You will just have to test it Dave.
Do that and also shove a six inch rosemary sprig in your tube smoker with a standard pellet
