The ability to run a program once the meat hits "X" degrees, is fantastic, that and WiFi will let you cook from your office desk and park it in rest mode till you get home!....Awesome!

Good Score!!!

Congratulations Master Mak!

Chris
Thank You Chris, really appreciate your positive comments and enthusiasm.

The central Fire pot is awesome, delivered a great result last time when grilling and I swear it imparted a beautiful pinkness to my lamb which had a great charcoal flavour, completely different to results from the Yoder.

And yes, I think its time to change my name!
Fantastic.....got any pics of the grilling?....keen to see it working!

Cheers
Chris

Very impressive unit! Congrats Master Mak(?). Aside from the temp control I particularly like the pellet dumping. Very neat!

Fired up the MAK Grill today to make some homemade Salsa and cold smoke some cheese at the same time!!
One of the awesome features of the MAK 2 Star General is the cold smoker box on the LHS, this allows for indirect smoke from the main cooking chamber to file in and allow you to totally indirectly, without heat, cold smoke Fish, Salmon, Cheeses and Nuts.

First up was the homemade smoked salsa, I cut up tomatoes, jalapeño, avocado, green chillies, red onions, garlic, red capsicum, green capsicum and yellow capsicum, placed them in the main chamber and set the MAK Grill to Smoke at 160F for 1 hour.

Once the ingredients for the Salsa had been smoked for 1 hour, I then left them at room temperature before I whacked them all into a food processor and blended them, once blended added some Chili, Chipotle, Jalapeño Salt and Chulola sauce for added flavour and spiceyness.
I have gotta say that the smoked ingredients for the Salsa tasted AMAZING and then with all the added spices, this is the best Salsa I have had outside of the USA!! Definitely doing this again and again and again !! 8)

I then divided up some Margaret River Aged Cheddar and Costco American Aged Cheddar and placed on a frog mat and put them into the side cold smoker box and left them to cold smoke for 30 minutes.
Once the cheese was done, I left in the fridge for 1 hour and then vacuum sealed for later. As an experiment I rubbed one slice in sweet paprika and one in Amazing Spiced Apple Rub to see what type of complex flavour may develop over time.

Cheese took an amazing amount of smoke, perhaps too much as I had used Hickory Pellets, think next time I will use something a bit milder like Pecan or Cherry, overall the cheese took on and developed a very complex smoked flavour, whilst initially very overpowering with your first bite, after time it mellowed out and left you wanting more 8)

PS: I have just abandoned the idea of cooking lamb tonight, so I can eat more Salsa ! Salsa, Salsa, Salsa, Salsa

Shipped weight was 284lbs and actual unit weight including all shelves and internal accessories would be around 220lbs.

Hey Master Yoder... it's been a couple years since your last post on this thread. Just wondering if your love of the Mak 2 Star continued once you started doing longer/more complicated cooks? Did you find the step-down transformer was enough to keep things awesome and happy in the Mak? Or did the different Aussie Hz give you issues?

You will find that a lot of people who posted in the past are no longer here, you may get an answer but don't be dissapointed if you don't.

Thanks so much for the reply Angryman - yeah I figured it was a longshot and then after I posted I saw some other threads in this forum and another one which made me realize that some folks are no longer involved. A pity... but thank you very much for the heads up.

Hi Darman,
Thanks for your post. I am the Australian importer of Yoder Smokers into Australia, here is my expierience;

Any of your 110V pellet grills will not work properly here in Australia due to the difference in Hz. I imported some 110V YS640 & YS480 models and we have ended up changing most if not all the hoppper boxes over with all the electronics to 240V. The difference in Hz will mess with the timing.

If I were you I would sell your YS640 in the US and not bring any 110V model over to AU. Look at a Pellet Grill 240 V when you get to Australia.

I support the Yoder 240V YS models with every conceivable spare part but really dont have much in the way of 110V spares which you will need at some point.

Please email me if I can help you any further at david@grillpro.com.au

Cheers, Dave
