benny332's DIY BBQ Journey!

Post by benny332 »

Hi guys,

I would like to start on my next DIY project, and thats a smoker. But, I want to build one with a bit of flare! I have been wondering about it for a while now, and I bought an old fuel tank from a classic carto act as the main BBQ. My first question is, would it be safe to use if I clean it up and sand blast it?

Cheers,

Hamo

Well Benny, you'll have to clean it out well...but you wouldn't be the first person to use a fuel tank!

Thanks for the replies Chris and Zorba!

I dont know if a giant pistol would float my boat, but hopefully what I have planned will be awesome!

I change this to a journal because im going to have so many questions, I thought it would be easier this way! And you can see pics along the way!

This is the tank I bought, and I have cut it tonight. Ill post a picture when I have polished things up!

Ive cut the lid off. There were several internal walls which wernt welded in, which was awesome. Im just polishing the edges before I get it sand blasted. Not sure whether to get it blasted both inside and out, or just inside, to try and keep some of the finish, which looks awesome.
