Looks like it.
Guys, With out a leaf or flower or an open slab showing the grain, Its hard to tell what all these woods are.
If in doubt throw it out.
Spuds the sapwood colapse and checking tells me it could be Campor , Ditch it.
Put an axe down the centre and show me the opened wood. I dont think its silky oak but it could be.
what kind of wood is this?
Re: what kind of wood is this?
If trees screamed when we cut them down, We wouldn't. If they screamed all the time we would.

Re: what kind of wood is this?
Not a very clear picture, but here's a test to try: If it really is a silver birch, the bark will be made of very fine soft layers, kind of like filo pastry or paper bark. It should be possible to peel or scrape the bark off in very thin, paper-like layers.Marshall wrote:Ok, save starting another thread. Is this Silver Birch? Any good for smoking before I drag it home and chop it up? I smelt birch fires in cooking stoves in the US and it was a good smell.

Better pic. It's about 6 inches across, papery bark. Not real heavy/dense.
Re: what kind of wood is this?
Much better picture. I'm pretty sure that's a silver birch.
