value for money?

Post by stkildajimmy »

Recently I visited big W and noticed they offer fantastic deals on bbq's with all the bells and whistles. However, names such as the 'Outdoor Gourmet 6 Burner BBQ' and 'Outdoor Kitchen 4 Burner BBQ' fail to draw many matches when I google them. These bbq's are obviously being re-branded, but does anyone actually know if they offer good value for money?

I have purchaed 2 "El Cheapo" BBQs over the years and whilst I thought that they were good when I bought them and they were cheap, in the end they did not last nor did they do the things that I wanted them to do effeciently. If they are cheap then the chances are that they have cut many corners in design and construction to meet a price point. Have a look at the more expensive brands and do some research. You want a BBQ that will last 10 years and still be under warranty. Most people replace top brand BBQs after 10 - 15 years only because they want the latest and greatest not because it is dead.

I can second that. I have had two things go wrong with my Weber gasser.
Once I overheated the sideburner (by leaving my weber chimney on it for too long) and after calling them they reaplced it without asking.
A few months ago I discovered that two of my lighters (the piezo starters in the BBQ) were corroded away, again I called Weber and they sent me a complete replacement kit (4 startes + all electronic starter and cables) right away.
That's what I call service and it cost me nothing, zilch, nadda (well a phone call).. :D
