Gas issues after NG conversion.

Post by jazig_k »

Getting frustrated here. New Matador 6 burner BBQ, was a bit of a weak flame on bottle gas with the .9 jets. With 1.4 jets on bottle gas the flames were huge, as expected, I was just curious how big a difference it would be.

Now I've fitted the BBQ to the NG line, using a Gasmate kit and the flame was pathetic. I couldn't light 2 burners at all. I turned the regulator at the BBQ right up and down, nothing changed. So I drilled the jets out ~.1mm at a time with # drills. I'm up to about 2mm and I can light 3 burners but only JUST.

I've adjusted the reg all the way in and out, no change [the flame goes out when screwed right out, as it should though].

I've even adjusted the mains regulator, counting 10 full turns in the +. No change at all. I've now returned it to its original setting.

Has anyone got any ideas? It shouldn't be this hard...

Me thinks you should get a gas plumber to check it out....if you're not qualified....don't touch it....it could mean your life.
A change- over means more than just getting a gas kit ....gas can be extremely dangerous.

what did you do with the conversion to NG ?
was it just connect a hose ?

FYI
LPG pressure is 2.4bar
NG is 1 bar
so you need different jet sizes

the question is how big , some google foo should see you right

I had a gas clothes dryer and the only alteration to make it burn NG was a larger jet.

Can you try a different regulator? It may be closing off but not opening properly? Other than that, what Davo said, go back to the installer.

What size gas line is installed at your house?
I had the same problem with a 4 burner. Was told it was because I only had 1/2 inch copper and needed 3/4 inch copper to get the extra gas volume to the BBQ . I ended up buying a NG Weber Q and it works perfectly
