Gasser for under $400?

A mate is having a housewarming and has asked for a BBQ. Unfortunately he doesn't know any better, so he wants a gas so now I have no idea what to get him.
Something around a 4 burner would be good I think.

I assume everything Jumbuck branded is rubbish, but I don't know if they have any decent models out there. Other than that, I'm not too sure what is around.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Brands to stay away from/lean towards?

Edit* also his missus is a *shudder* vegetarian... if that changes what would be good.

You can get a Weber Q 200/220/2000/2200 for around that amount of $$$.

Do they need a stand or do they work ok just on a table?

Agree about the Weber Q (2200), the best for that money by far. make sure you get the one from a Weber dealer with the higher lid and thermometer, not the 'Master's BBQs Galore model which has none of those features and is only $10 cheaper anyway. I don't like the Weber stand. Sit it on a table for now or even better, buy a 2 door bench style cabinet (with wheels if possible). That gives you some storage as well.

Hmm I hadn't noticed the difference but was planning on the Q2000, since it would be about $90 cheaper than the 2200. If I get one more mate to chip in, I will try for the 2200, but not sure I can afford it otherwise.

I was going off the Weber site for that $10 difference but I see Rays Outdoors have the 2000 for $374, rrp on the 2200 is $439 and hard to get any discounts. Still better value IMHO.

I think another mate is chipping in though, so we can afford the better one.

I really do not know why Weber do the lower spec models, just turnover I suppose.

Don't be tempted the difference is massive.
