genesis or spirit ???

Post by Z3R0 »

Hi guys, be reading as much as I can the last week or so. My dilemma is my 40th is coming up and the Mrs Z3R0 has approved the genesis e330. Awesome right ? Well I have been offered a spirit e320 for $500 bucks.( Almost new)

Will I have buyers remorse ? is their a significant difference between the two ? We do like to entertain and I think the bigger genesis would suit us. Also prefer the convenience of gas. What would you do ?

A bit biased here... As I ordered my Genesis last Friday. If you say you entertain then I would say you would probably need the Genesis. I had the same issue just before I bought it too... Could have got a brand new Beefeater 1100s for cheap but the fat tray on the beefeater and the ability for the Weber coasters to roll in any direction sold me back to the Weber.. Weber hood sticks out when flipped up where as the Beefeater doesn't but Weber's 4 360 degree coasters eliminate that issue for me.

Thanks Ryno for your opinion. I am kinda leaning that way. By the way did you pay rrp or did you manage to get a discount/ any freebies ? I hate paying retail, I've only been into one store and they refused to budge ! 8-(

Weber products have a set RRP. It's then up to the specialist dealer to throw in freebies or a discount at their own cost. Get on the phone and ring around! Should have some luck this time of year

The spirit is built on price to compete with other market cheaper BBQ's
I'd go and look at both side by side. Have a good feel, pull the guts out and feel around.
You will soon see the price points.

Can't tell you what to buy but if it's your primary means of BBQ then I'd rather some up front buyers remorse then forever wish I'd have purchased the better unit.
If you look at what I use below my summit has become superfluous, I don't really need it now and a weber q type unit would do. But if I only had my summit? It would be most important and worth the dollars.

Hi Z340,

Unfortunately finding a cheaper Weber is very unlikely. I monitored Gumtree for over 6 months... Missed one crazy 2nd hand deal once and never saw anything again other then the older style with the knobs on the right hand side which I definitely didn't want... In the end I just went new which is good too as you know exactly where it's been and what it's done.
Most retailers tell you that Weber simply doesn't allow them to offer discounts. It must be true because not one will offer a cent off and will lose the deal rather then doing so. If your patient you might wait and do the ring around a few times over some months and might luckily land a sale if you're patient.. But you might be waiting for nothing too.

Once I was ready to buy, one Saturday morning I rang every Weber retailer in Perth and not one would budge on price. Of all the specialist in Perth two agreed to the 'throw ins' which I wanted.
Leederville Flame and water and Joondalup outdoor chef.

Leederville got my custom as I am south of the river and it's much closer.

I got a cover, brush and a bag of woodchips for free and 10% of anything else of which I got the detached smoker box. I was going to get a few other things like a trivet but he said just wait, try it out and come back and get any more accessories if I still thought I needed them.... still with 10% off.

I'm not entirely sure that the cover isn't meant to be part of the package but some retailers wouldn't throw it in and others would only give about $50 off them. (Other Weber buyers might be able to confirm this).

Still its an expensive bbq but his customer service made the full price of the bbq far more bearable. (I was possibly delirious with happiness that I was finally getting a bbq after close to 2 years without one).

If you're in Perth I recommend them. (I am not affiliated in any way).

Some retailers may tell you that but they are simply incorrect. I am a Weber specialist in Melbourne so I know. I can sell at any price I wish and it is my choice weather we discount or not, and mine alone. The Weber Genesis is an amazing BBQ, 25 year warranty, exceptional back up service, Assembled and delivered, rubbish taken away, Sear station, 2 grills and a hotplate, a cleaning system the envy of every other bbq manufacturer, that works. Choice magazine 98 points from 100, 8 points in front of any other grill, enough space to cook 20 fist sized large steaks at once. no cold spots. looks fantastic. well designed and manufactured all for less than 2 K. It is way the best value for money bbq in this class which will last you for years if you look after it. People come in asking for Genesis E330 because it is such a good product not because of the price. There has been a huge amount of research and development that goes into a grill this good. You post you received a cover and some other kit thrown in then you have done very well. The trick is now is learn how good it is. It is no mistake that running one burner on low will give you 225 Deg F.
I currently use an E330 at home and have had the two models of Genesis previous to this one and they just keep getting better, yes I am bias but I have had and cooked on a lot of grills in my years in the industry and in this class and price point nothing else comes close.

Wow Tony.....that is one of the best raps for a BBQ I've ever read :) I think I might go out and b.. Oh hang on.....Misuss is shaking her head and an emphisis on the scowl.....

But I do love my 3 Webers (Q320, Performer Kettle & WSM), they have given me brilliant service.....very little ever goes wrong with them.....sometimes you've just gotta look beyond the price tag.

Z3RO.....hope you'll have a ball with your new Genisis......we wanna see it in action :)

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies, and Tony I agree with you. It would have to be one of the best buys I will make. An outstanding bbq with the best warranty I've ever heard of. The quality of this bbq/product is just about untouchable in any other market.

I will continue to do the ring around and if I don't get any discount I will happily pay rrp, knowing I have bought an excellent bbq at a great price. I will keep trying for a little bit off until then.

Hey Tony, is there any truth that the webber specialist dealers can only sell to customers in their own area ? or can I buy off any one of them. I'm in Newcastle.

Thanks.

Hi Guys
We can sell anywhere, but here is what I suggest, find a good dealer and stick with him! Why? The good dealers invest time and money into training as do Weber they actively get involved in training my staff so good stores have good product knowledge and if you are on their mailing list or follow them on social media or the forums etc you can get in when great new products are released and get the best deals.
I have the same deal with my butchers I use, sometimes I need to go to three in one day because some don't have what I want or some have better lamb than others etc, keeping touch with them talking with them means you will know where your meat comes from etc. Farms have different seasons / years like everyone else or wine for example good years bad years, drought / flood. Currently I like Cape Grim beef from Tasmania particularly the hanger steak, and I get it from the Vic Market, but tonight we are eating lamb from down by the Bawon River on the Belarine Peninsula, I get it from my local guy he gets half a dozen lambs a week and he will contact me if he comes across something particularly good. Last week I get a text message saying he has just got in some really good rabbits. My point here being get to know them and they will look after you with good produce.

We were lucky enough to pick up a second hand E-330 was actually far more then I thought I'd even pay for a bbq but its worth every cent. We use it 4-5 times a week and come summer we will probably use it everyday. Gas economy is the best and Weber quality and customer service is known to be fantastic.

Well I cooked our first steaks last night on our new e330, wow!
A little bit over done, but I was impressed ! Cant wait till it's a few months old and run in.

When we bought it we got a few freebies thrown in, two of the large pizza stones were included. However we can't fit two large stones in the 330 at once. I noticed BBQ galore has a pizza stone slightly smaller at 33cm which might do the trick. I'm gunna try and swap these pizza stones for something else. I already have a thermometer, maybe they will let me swap them for a couple of trivets. What would be a good accessory to have ??
