Which one to buy???

Post by macy517 »

I went to the BBQ festival in Melbourne the other weekend and saw pellet grills for the first time. I saw a demo on the Traeger and thought wow, this is my sort of BBQ. As usual, too much information on the internet so now I am confused, trying figure out which brand is better. Any recommendations on the 'better' pellet grill to look at and why? Not looking at real high end. Just a home BBQ'er. Any advice much appreciated.

start by reading the threads in this section of the forum.
many of the available models are talked about (with plenty of pics).

I've not used a pellet grill, but I remember reading a number of posts
from urbangriller about a GMG(?) where you set a profile and it
remembers the profile (set-and-forget). That's what would interest me.

The GMG or Traegar, either would probably suit you for home cooks. Think UG sells both brands. Depending on the price difference, the wifi with the GMG does sound like an excellent feature.

Have a look at the Louisiana grills, only recently imported to Australia, totally Australian compliance and some really useful accessories.
My mate Chris bought one of them recently and he's really happy with his choice.
These units are very well built and is quite solid...the controls easy to use. My friend's unit is the LG1100. With quite a few accessories and extra bags of pellets, his investment came to just over 2k. Good value i think.

Yoder Pellet Grills are another option, more expensive but 100% built in Kansas USA

After cooking on pellet grills for 4 years now and on 3 different brands of Pellet Grills, my advice to anyone is go and have a look at them, see touch & feel. Check out their build quality, auger feed system, underneath the hopper box, if they use a burn grate or a fire crucible ....

Don't ever just buy off pictures on a website. :D
