Cross Eyed Rottweiler

The other day I took my rottweiler to the vet as he had crossed eyes.
The vet picks him up looks into his eyes and says to me "I'm going to have to put him down".
I said, "what because he's cross eyed???"
The vet said "no, because he's heavy"
