Char-Broil Universal Cast iron Kettle Grate

Post by Hogsy »

I bought these grates off amazon the other day after searching for Some grates that would suit my needs

The reason I chose these was because I wanted something that would work with my Performers gas assist, there's plenty of room for a chimney to sit once the smaller insert is removed
The smaller insert also fits perfectly into a 47cm/18.5in kettle as well as my kamado

So it's like having 2 sets of grates,
They cost $30 on amazon and $65 postage....ouch!!!
I considered the craycorts which are probably a better made product, well heavier gauge cast iron anyway
But the fact I don't have to take out the whole grate system to start a chimney was what sold me
I've used them a couple of times and are very happy wth them. They heat up quick and give grate sear marks. There also very easy to clean

Char-Broil Universal Cast iron Grate

The sad part about the freight cost is they were probably made much closer to Oz than the US, and you've had to pay more to bring them back into the ASEAN region! I'm liking the removable centre too - if I don't use the wok burner I'll light the chimney on the fire grate with a couple of firefighters, and replace the grille once I've dump the lit coals in.

Can't complain with that

Looks good, can't beat CI over that kettle and Komodo.
I've got one of those ones that have quarter drop in sections.
I still use the original wire grates though in certain times. be interested if down the track of your journey you find both grill types have there place
If trees screamed when we cut them down, We wouldn't. If they screamed all the time we would.

Mixin, Just be a bit careful using a wok burner if it's one of those that are on the side of a modern day gasser because a few have been known to melt from the downward heat of the chimney if left on too long. If it's one of those heavy guage triple burners I think it'd be fine. Not sure what you have so I just thought I'd point that out.

Cheers

There's a bit of stack bond in the middle, you could get quite creative. :D

That looks like a fantastic solution Hogsy!.....and not expensive compared to the other options....what does a standard replacement wire grill cost?

Yes, I'm pretty happy with it Chris, the weber replacement grills are $60 so $95 for CI isn't too bad
I noticed Masters is selling Char- Broil products, but I haven't found any info on whether their selling the Kettle grates
Which is a shame because even if they doubled what their selling them for in the states, they'd still sell well

Was far cheaper than that when I bought one from Ray's Outdoors, with discount it was around $47.00.

Was that the hinged grill?
If you want to be specific, Masters sell the hinged grate for $55 and the gourmet system for $69
