Back lit...very sweet! The only drawback of the unit I have ever encountered! And obviously that is only on overnight cooks!

I have the the maverick thermometer but this is supposedly

Never had any issues with my Mavericks ET-72 or ET-732's reading fast or accurate.

The Thermapen is the business when you want to do a quick temp check. The probe is very thin so if you have a smaller piece of meat to check you're not gouging a big hole in it.
