Wollongong

Post by Dougt »

Hey fellas,

Recently moved to Bulli and have been looking around the local area.

Where can i get my hands on all good BBQ related gear locally?? Im talking meat (shoudlers and brisket), rubs and sauces, lump and fruit woods

Seems to be a lack of retailers down this way....

Just reviving this one to see of there are any answers out there.

My job requires a fair bit of driving all over the place. Up until recently it was all over Sydney. This meant i managed to duck into a whole range of suppliers all over the place.

I have now moved down to the Wollongong office and would like to know of any butchers that can be recommended down there. Specifically I am looking for someone that does rump cap but any recommendation will do.

Try this mob, The sign out front is the right price for rump.
All Australian butchers know what a rump cap is. It does cost a little more because it's taken off the whole rump.
Far cheaper to buy a whole rump and take the cap off for a roast and section out the rest of it.
I pay $13 KG for just rump cap of good Angus. But can get the whole rump for $9 kg

Not shopped here but this is the kind of place I look for.
Anything that is high turnover and busy. It can be a lucky strike but if you know what your looking for,,, Great finds can be had.

Hasties also does a grass fed brisket, and a wagyu brisket. (But I haven't tried them).

I got a pork shoulder from them.. I asked for free range but was pretty sure it wasn't.

The only butcher I'd recommend totally is Hawthorns Meats at Woonona.

I also like Graze at Balgownie - they want to impress.

Both $$.. but you get what you pay for.
