Haha yeah I know what you mean, I was shocked the other day when I saw the price of ribs, and the tiny amount of meat on the ones I saw was crazy, basically about the same price as a decent cut of beef and you're paying for bone!

Speaking with professionals "in the industry" in Australia they tell me that some of the best if not the best pork ribs available in Australia are from the grower who supplies Costco here in Australia ( not Baby Backs tho )NotoriousPIG wrote:I've been wanting to ask this question as well because the only good ribs I've found where $22.95 a kiloalimac23 wrote:Hi all,

I have purchased them in Melb & Syd while over there cooking, fabulous ribs at about $16 / kg

Try the Mediterranean butcher at the stock rd markets. Get down to the civilised end of town

I just paid $18.95 a kg from the local butcher at Dianella Plaza, I'll know what they taste like tomorrow night.
My mate down the road regularly buys "happy organic piggy" or somesuch for $20 kg from Mondos in Beaufort street which doesn't seem too bad and they tasted great when I was at his place the other week. You have to order them in advance though.

A new "butcher" opened up in Westminster shopping centre. Popped my head in today for a look. It's more of a "meat store" than a butcher as such is everything is pre packaged. They had a decent range of "whole" beef cuts. Pork shoulders/legs. They also had these, "beef short ribs" that looked like they had a decent amount of meat on them. And reasonable at $6.99 a kg I think.

Re: Ribs in Perth
Two places I've had luck NOR is Luigi's in Ballajura and the Beef Shed in Malaga. The beef shed sells a full pork belly with the ribs still attached, so you'll have to cut them off yourself and there is still the belly. I'm pretty sure you can phone ahead and they'd cut ribs for you as well. I'd phone ahead for Luigi's as well, but he's easily the best butcher I've come across in the area.
