remote controlled thermometer/thermostat, which do you want
Bluetooth like iGrill is point to point and has limit effective distance of 100' or 200' feet.
WiFi has same distance as bluetooth. But if you can access it to Internet, then you can view it remotely worldwide.
But to access an WiFi equipment to Internet is a challenge. Not every non-I.T. person can manage it. There is plug and play WiFi access plan, but you need to pay server fee of $10 per year.
The most easiest way is 4G mobile phone. Everyone shall be able to manage it. You can monitor and control your BBQ from your mobile phone remotely. What is the minimum cost of 4G service per month.
If you want to buy BBQ thermometer or thermostat, which do you prefer, bluetooth, WiFi, or 4 G phone

Do you know if iGrill measures the oven/bbq temp as well as the meat temp?

Do you know my BBQ thermometer the wGrill with WiFi, which has 2 probes, one for pit, the other for meat.
My question is not about number of probes. Technically it is easy, 1 or 10 probes.
I want to know which remote technology you want to use, bluetooth, Wifi, or 4G

Hi Wang, I have your wGrill and I think it's great. I have had a few issues sometimes when I connect it, the reading on my phone is wrong, sometimes it may read 7463f for instance when it is only 150f on the wgrill unit and actual temperature of the BBQ.
I have to reset the unit a few times for it to show the correct reading.
Maybe a problem with the unit itself?
I like the use of wifi very simple.
A 4G model would be good, my iPhone skips between 3G and 4G depending on coverage and where I am, most people have access to 4G with their mobile phones in Australia even with fairly basic mobile phone plans.
I like the idea of being able to view the temperature remotely.

User side of 4G will be much easier.
But you need to have a 4G phone card/number for the equipment.
What is the cost or service fee for a 4G card per month.
The data transferred will be much less.

My company phone plan is about $60 per month which is 4G, but there would be other cheaper options I'm sure.
As I said, most people here would have it as standard almost

I think Wang is referring to the 4G SIM card being inside the wGrill.
Wang, the cost of 4G would be too expensive. Wifi is the best option. I would encourage you to make sure the instructions are step by step and easy to follow. The user interface should be simple to access and use.
It doesn't have to be accessed via the internet, just from the local network.
The advantages are:
- range: local network range is greater than bluetooth.
- flexibility, because you'd also be able to track the probes from a PC.

Being able to access via local network would be good. At the moment you connect directly to the wgrill, doing so losing any Internet connection to device.
It would be good to view the wgrill through LAN whilst still connected to the Internet, maybe this could be done now but I don't know how.

If it is currently using a point to point wifi link (between phone and wgrill) then you'll likely lose internet connectivity on the phone.Busio90 wrote:Being able to access via local network would be good. The way I think Wang would like it to work is to add wGrill to your wifi local network (pick up an IP through DHCP by default or choose one manually as an option). The phone app should then be able to locate it automatically.
The phone app should also be able to display the IP address of the wGrill so that you can find it from a PC (also on your local network) by typing the IP address in a browser. The instructions for this could be very simple.

Yer I think that's the way he's looking to head. It's currently just point to point. Great unit for the price!

definitely WiFi
Instructions can be made pretty simple, there are already a few good WiFi units in the market.
Cheers, Dave
