Some King Island scotch fillets on the GA

Post by Emo »

My first time cooking steak on the GA tonight. I got some King Island Scotch Fillets from Coles. I've had these steaks a few times now and I think they taste great.

Anyway I have some CI grates that I cut up from an old BBQ a while back and I fired up some heat beads in the chim.

The steaks were rubbed with olive oil and some

I left them for a couple of hours out of the fridge with the seasoning on to come to room temp.

Then chucked them on over some direct heat.

About 4 minutes each side, was probably a little more done than I would normally cook them but this was my first time over coals so I'm learning.

The end result was fantastic, great flavour and tenderness, with that little extra that only coals can give. Image

My wife is a bit of a sceptic of my claims that meat cooked over coals is better, she can't understand the extra effort.

Overall I was wrapped with the result and will find it hard doing these over gas again.

Nice work Emo!
Love a good cook on a GA.
Try using Lump charcoal when cooking things like steaks, hardwood charcoal will pump out a higher heat, giving you a nice crust on the meat, without having to leave it sitting there too long to and "overcooking" to your liking.

The cast iron is definitely the way to go though!

I dropped the bastard when I took it out to clean tonight and busted a couple of bits off it, but it'll still work fine.

Well, if its too broke, go caveman style straight on the coals. Awsome results with steak cooked caveman style :D
