Partyq/DigiQ and BSK

Post by itsnotburnt »

Greetings all,

Quick question for all the BSK owners, have any you used a PartyQ or DigiQ and did you find it useful/worth the money?

Also, is it normal for the top vent to "leak" some smoke even when fully closed (I assume being 100% smoke tight is a fairly tough ask).

Partyq/DigiQ and BSK

Hi

The keg does leak a bit. On the BSK forum site there are tips how to seal the top and bottom vents. I did that with good results. I brought the silicone sealant at Supercheap.

I still have leaks around the lid seal. The BSK forum says this should disappear with time but hasn't for me. I haven't made a fuss of it yet, but do wonder if it's normal.

I'm thinking of getting a Partyq or Auber but am yet to pull the trigger...

I have both, the partyQ is good for the little Primo but I'd recommend the digiQ for the BSK, along with a dedicated port. With enough use the top vent will get to the stage you will struggle to open it without applying a little heat, then it's got a good seal!

G'day Bodgy,

What do you mean by a dedicated port? Not sure I am too keen an putting additional holes in the BSK if that's what you mean.

There were pics of the port I wacked in mine here but they were in imagecave and that's dead, here's a link to the keg forum, http://forum.bigsteelkeg.com/index.php?topic=1439.0 , you can get the port with the guru if your game to drill a couple of holes, when not in use a silicon plug seals it up. Otherwise just go with the adaptor in the lower vent.

Yep, a dedicated port is drilling a hole in the back of the Keg.....perfectly safe and harmless.

For the lid vent, I removed mine and refited it with a bead of silicone between it and the lid...seal is peerfect!

I wish! I've spoken to them a number of times but they are not keen to let it out of the US. You can buy direct from them: http://www.thebbqguru.com/products/Digi ... e%29-.html

I think they're only available direct from the manufacture. Here's a review by an old member, http://www.aussiebbq.info/forum/viewtop ... =16&t=2537,

I went with the the 8 foot probe option as recommended by mr green.

Me too, you'll also need an adaptor to plug the US style plug into our 240 outlet, I got mine from Dick Smith.

Is the PartyQ's fan too weak for the BSK or? I like the battery option due to lack of power outlets close to my Keg.

Magnus, I reckon the partyQ would be fine, if , you get the Keg up near the temp you want to maintain and have get the vents set pretty close, with the digiQ you can just light the wick and let the 10cfm pump away until it gets near temp, it will then settle down. I have run the partyQ overnight on the Primo

Actually the 10cfm makes the keg sound like it's alive, the way it gives a puff of breath every so often 8)

The PartyQ has a 6.5cfm fan anyway...give the keg a head start then lock her down!

I'm taking a PartyQ to the Redheads Gourmert BBQ Festival in Adelaide!
