That's an early lid with Daisy Wheel only, not the later one with wheel and slide.

Mick, you can put a little bit of the gasket felt inside the metal top so it fits the chimney nice and snug.

Try the older wheel as is but perhaps consider an updated metal top to expand temp control range. I wouldn't suggest a gasket around the vent on a large egg as it's really not needed and the included dampener will be harder to switch and seat. The meduim egg on the other hand uses the same size metal top (mine 2010) and indeed needs help to stay.

I see what you are saying.
Ive got a new top coming with the DW and swing away, as well as the other bits it needed.
It cleaned up like new.
Now Ive got my sights on making a table cart for it.
If this goes well, I may flip my WSM

I always wanted a new Primo XL but I could not knock this second hand cooker back for the price.
Saying that, It is not sea worthy to cook on and needs some work.
All the bits are there,,,,,,,
Must have been the smell of the charcoal :)

The restoration was going great, Until

The lid sits too far back.
Possibly from the previous owner opening the lid to forcibly?
Any known fixes?

It doesn't look to be out at the back? Is the diameter the same as the base?

Chris
It doesnt look it but it is 3mm out at the back
The lid is also slightly smaller than the base wich make it worse.
there is a 1/4 inch of lid felt exposed to direct heat at rge front.
I think its a combination of the top band being twisted and the hinge frame and "L" brackets being forced.
Though I cant see any stress marks.
Might have to pony up for a new hinge/ band assembly as it would still be worth it.
BTW, Chris all those part fit perfect, There was anough felt to run around the top flange and the CI vent sits down perfecly and seals fully.
The bottom vent fitted well.
So thanks for that.
Im about to start on a Merbau / Kwila table cart for it, Then I have to build a garden shed to shove all my webers into so that the patio looks neat and uncluttered (Yes that was the price I had to pay management)

Make sure your shed is big enough to sleep in Mick! :D

Also, I wonder if putting the top band on the bottom would make a difference? ....Or, maybe the curved silver bracket should curve to the back, not the front?

Can't wait to see it rocking Mick!

Cheers

Checked the Primo, curve is the same way, Mick looks to have one curved plate outside one inside?? Cardshark will sort it out!

I'll be up your way late next week, you best get it sorted! I'm thinking I'll be around with a steak or cutlet.

Mick here's a video on how to adjust the lid. Watch it right through as the first part is for side to side, thesecond part is for front to back, and the third part is for a level seal.

Thats a very different BGE bracket mechenism in the video than mine and yours Mike. I like the stainless lid straps and handle. New model I guess. Had a similar issue out of the box assembling the first time with lid alignment. The gasket goes very quickly in areas not meeting flush not realizing.

Thanks Bill for that link and Sharky for the call, I understand now, Did all that but it bounces back as soon as I open the lid.
I will play with it tomorrow a bit more.
If all else fails I will just put a packer between the band and the band mount.
