I was admiring the new Akorn Kamado Auto with set and forget bbq the other day and wondering how useful all the gadgets were if you didn't have a power point nearby or Chargriller no longer supported the app, or the electronic failed due to heat or water getting in.
Got my trusty caveman era Akorn out yesterday to get ready for Christmas. Cranked it up to 350C to burn off the rubbish. The Akorn kept rock solid at 350C for over two hours despite its age, dents when it fell over and rusty bits from being left outside. Today the sun was out so I got the garden hose out and cleaned out all the leftover loose bits. The water does a great job getting into those nooks and crannies. Final step was to re-season the grates.
