Dragon repairs

Post by Ednorris »

Hi there,

I'm new here and i have recently bought a 2nd hand dragon kamado on the cheap. The only problem is that the barbeque main body is quite a bit loose from the frame which holds it up.
These bolts seem to thread in from the inside of the bbq to the frame.
The inside of the main bowl seems to be connected to the bbq body by a series of rivvets the top lip of the bbq.

I'm wondering, can i trim these rivets, remove the inside of the bbq bowl, tighten up the frame bolts, replace the bowl, then then redo the rivvets?

I was wondering has anyone done this type of maintenance?

Are there some other connections i have to worry about?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Dean

Are you talking about the Legs/frame being loose on the outside of the main unit?
Have you tried tightening the Bolts?
These units have rivet nuts as threads.

Maybe if you could show a picture I could help
I have one in the backyard

Hi Titch,
Thanks for the reply.
The problem is I dont think I can access the bolt heads to tighten them. The bolt heads seem to be inside the wall of the kamado. I think i might need to remove the inner liner to access them.

I cant remember how I assembled it, I never tightened any internal bolts ,so I,m assuming it came with Leg frame Attached.

I would be drilling the bowl rivets.

I think the unit your referring too has a shelf, the Akorn I had before , had them with rivet Nuts in the bowl .
slightly different unit

12x7 i think this answers my question perfectly. The dragon it seems though has the rivnuts in the frame. Probably a bit better design structurally imho if they actually locktited the bolts up properly. Thanks everyone i will try to document the process.

Titch,
I think you are correct. According to the manual, the frame mounts come attached.
Lets hope the internals of the main body are similar.

if the loose side/nut is from the lifting tray (lift and wheel kamado),
you can move the legs/wheels from the LHS to the RHS (or vice-versa),
so the lifting can be done by the good tray. (make sure the nuts
attaching the tray to the body are tight before using).
