Having Fun with my Kettle Kone

Post by Davo »

A couple of Months ago I decided to get into Kettle Kone Grilling....went over to BBQ Aroma in Leichhardt Sydney and got myself the larger Kettle Kone but really could've done with the slightly smaller standard size.
These ones are Square shaped and Made by Boss Hog and the Dutchess of Pork  love the name :D
http://bosshoggandtheduchessofpork.com.au/kettle-kone/

Anyway.....so when I got it home, gave it a good burn in to get rid of the excess residue that might be on it from the factory, thought I'd have a good ol play with a few batches of chicken wings which are everyone's favourite. When I began, I wasn't real sure on how many coals I should put in this Kone as it was pretty spacious so i threw caution to the wind and thought what the heck...I'll fill the bugger right up

Ha....well this spun my lid temp guage right round the dial.....so yeah it was Hot baby 8)

So i let the excess heat burn it in for a bit hoping it wouldn't melt the Kone or my Kettle...not to get it set up and ready for some wing heaven.

Same as Vortex only squared....does same job. I've seen a vortex and think the Kone is much stronger.

Wings do look good, be all over them.
Wings would have to be the best part of a Chicken
Next time your at IKEA grab a stainless colander for about 6 bucks and cut the bottom out

Titch,
Have you cooked a chicken on the inside as seen on the Vortex webpage, if so how did it turn out?.

I can see the merits behind this technique but I feel that it's a lot of charcoal used up for just 1 chook
