Thanks for the heads up 12x7. I'd like to give this a try, and it looks like a trip to Canberra is in order to get some.

If you have a Bunnings that is closer try the new Jumbuck eucalyptus lump charcoal. $15.90 for 10kg. Decent quality and size as well as price.

Also you can try the specials orders desk and ask to send some heat beads lump over to your local.

I was at my local Bunnings today, looking for the Jumbuck charcoal. The section it was in last time has been replaced with Samba lump at $12.40 for 5kg :x . The Jumbuck product has been removed from their website too.

They did have two varieties last week. The boxed stuff had been moved towards the back of the shop and there was some bagged stuff where it used to be.

Been looking for the heat beads branded charcoal so I can give it a test run, forgot all about going to the Canberra shops when I was there Wednesday. Too busy dealing with the time wasted in waiting rooms and teenage boys who break bits of themselves being silly.

I might have a look at the one on Parramatta Rd next week its on the list and I'll be going past for work, do you want me to grab a couple of bags for you?

Yeah don't know about anyone else but I also have to pick up my game.....crikey it's either been too bloody hot or too wet here in Shitney.....combined with 14 hour work days....not much gets BBQed here atm.

I've still got half a bag of Heatbead coconut heatbeads to use, only can run the WSM atm coz the Performer is buried under a heaps of crap in the Garage, maybe i'm gonna have to buy myself a kettle just to do the smaller cook ups as the performer is just to bulky and awkward for me to lift up into the back area which is elevated from the garage and i don't have a cover for it as theres no awning where i live.

I'll be transferring soon to another workplace in early May and there's a huge new Bunnings in the same street...just a matter of taking the car to work every now n then as it might be a bit awkward on a pushy  ( yeah..reduced to a pushy  )

Those new coconut briquettes are good in the WSM but no real charcoal flavour that i can tell but they last a fair while, maybe longer than the coal briquettes.

Heres hoping that when i get to this new workplace (depot) only 1 suburb from where i live, then I may be able to fit in more BBQ.

I must say though..not sorry to see the arse end of daylight saving.....it's just no good for me :?

Cheers

They do seem to be a bit ashy Simmo but i think they have good endurance and besides, being made from Coconut shell, the ash should be ok to go right onto the garden whereas with the std Heatbeads briquettes, I'd be placing the ash in a garbage bag and into the bin due to the fact that they are made from brown coal.

Speaking of lump charcoal, I was in Harvey Norman at Liverpool today and they sell Everdure BBQs and they also had a collection of bags of Charcoal with Heston Blumethal's image on it as he is a big promoter of the brand.

I don't know what the charcoal is made from but it's all natural wood lump charcoal.....comes in 5, 10 and 20 kg bags.

May be worth trying as well.....who knows!!

Cheers

Davo, the Bunnings Kettle clones look pretty good for the price. While you are in Sydney you might have a better chance of picking up a secondhand Weber Kettle from eBay or gumtree.

I was at my local big green shed today and they have this in stock now :)
At $38.90/20kg it's a bit better value than the Char griller brand, which is now $27/10kg and the Samba which is $12.40/5kg but not as good as the Jumbuck stuff they had before.
When I make a bit more a dent in my stockpile, I'll give this stuff a go.
I've edited the OP to reflect this. If you find it at your local and it's not on the list, let me know and I'll change it.
