Seeking solutions

Post by Buzabbq »

Like many I use the snake method and have a brick in the middle which supports a water/drip tray.
On a few occasions I have nearly tip the water over when attempting to adjust the coals.
I would hate to deal with wet coals halfway into a cook.
I am thinking to maybe mount the water pan from the side or something

I hate to reinvent the wheel, I am hoping someone here have puzzled over how to improve this setup and have a solution?

Could you get a baking/cake pan with a flange around it, drill some holes in that flange, and wire it up to the underside of the cooking grille?

Yair . . .

Buzabbq. I use a section of twenty litre oil drum cut to the right height and a substantial aluminium pan, the thing can't tip or collapse . . . I dislike those throw away contraptions.

I reckon Mixin's suggestion would work but it would be a bit awkward to handle the grate and recover the drippings for the gravy.

Try a couple of stainless steel bowls which you can buy cheaply at a $2 shop etc and replace the foil. Put one upside down on the bottom grate and the other on top of it to catch the drips.

1/ Use 2 bricks so it can't tip?
2/ Put something heavy in the waterpan?
3/ Put the water pan on the top grill on top of the charcoal and the meat opposite under the exhaust holes?

Yep, no brick, I use a rectangular drip pan, sits nicely in the bottom. Set your snake so you don't have to adjust the coals...if you setup carefully, you don't need to fiddle.
