Firebox repair

Post by sosman »

Meh. That was still in one piece, merely a flesh wound. I had 4 separate bits.

The $7 tub of "super 3000" gotta be a whole lot less work and I don't plan on playing basketball with mine.

To be fair, it will get its first high temperature cook tomorrow but I am quietly confident.

Hi temp glue works fine. This is my current BGE fire box. (Newer version with expansion gap at the front) Not pretty but who cares. CS

Hi C S, that Pyrogrip looks the go. Where did you find it and how much was it?

$25 a tube Wayne from the local fire place shop. Use if for gaskets too. Good gear :)

:)

Don't have a need just now so had not been paying attention but Pyrogrip is brilliant Wayne and other Sandgropers, you are I think unlikely to find it at Bunnies but Walkers Hardware in Kalamunda usually have it.

Why? Same reason I needed it last time, lot of pot-belly stoves in the hills :)

Cheers

My ring survived its first hot cook (300 C) after gluing it together. Of course a chilli pizza can also damage your ring the following day but that's a different problem.

With those commercial glues...is there any "off gassing", chemical taint, etc..Are they designed to be used in ovens? around food

I actually dont need a repair just curious. The komado is like a chemical free zone due to absorbent nature of clay...id be worried i was introducing something nasty to my food

Update, mine failed. Not sure when. The weight of the fire ring was holding things together. Found out preparing for an overnight dismantling. Buggar.
