I know at work now, Glendale Warehouse

We have 5kg bags of Charmate charcoal, $15 a bag
I know a few from here have asked me in the past to get my boss to carry some charcoal.

Convinced her this year.
Also can recommend Manuka Wood chips, stuff is great on fish :P

Hi Forum Members, First time poster, long time reader. Great site.

I am in search of the elusive Japanese Binchotan Charcoal. Seems hard to reliably get a supply here in Sydney these days, which is a pity as I really enjoy using this charcoal.
Has anyone got any leads on who else imports this charcoal into Australia for BBQ's. All I can find is a supplier who seems to be always out of stock!
I know that there is Binchotan out of Vietnam etc. I have tried it and its not the same.

Cheers, Joe

We have binchotan in stock, but it is not from Japan. Japanese binchotan is extremely difficult to source in any worthwhile quantity. A few shady operators in Japan have even resorted to importing from Vietnam/Laos/Thailand etc and then on selling as Japanese binchotan.

I found this website on the weekend when searching on Ebay for Japanese Binchotan Charcoal http://www.kishubinchotan.com.au So I will give them a go and report back to the Forum.

I like to give every place a go.
I've bought from Emberpak which is stuff from thailand and I was happy with it and the service is good, I've also purchased Mallee and Gidgee from BBQ Aroma which was ok but 1 of the bags (I think it was the Mallee) was all small lumps and I'm not sure if it's meant to be that way although the gidgee was good. I plan to use the small stuff on the roti.

If I was to buy again I would buy from Emberpak because the size of the lump perfect for me, not too big where it doesn't burn as easy and not too small to choke.

My next purchase will be from a guy who sells wholesale just around the corner from me, I've been told he makes it himself in another state and brings it up to NSW to sell.. Unfortunately I have no other details.

I also just stick with Emberpak.

Other brands I've found burnt down a lot quicker with heaps more ash.

Good value but I really need to go for a drive and save myself $15 per bag!

This is a link to their ebay store.

They did have other varieties and sizes of charcoal previously.

Hi Forum Members,

A few days ago I received a 3kg consignment of charcoal from http://www.kishubinchotan.com.au
The product quality is very good. The guy running the show told me that the charcoal is direct from a supplier who is part of a co-operative harvesting oak trees for Binchotan products in Japan, further explaining none of it originates from other Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand or China.

I know its pricey but I would use nothing else for a table top grill. We introduced friends to the experience last night and they were blown away by the taste and the whole tabletop 'grill-to-suit-yourself' experience.

I can recommend this supplier.
