So I'm looking at utilizing a 5m x 2.5m area on the side of the house for a dedicated BBQ area.
Currently I'm finding i'm wheeling my baby q and YS640 from the other side of the house to an undercover area that we currently use for eating doesn't leave a huge amount of room for a permanent BBQ area setup.
The aim is to have the following equipment setup eventually covered by a permanent pergola.
- Pizza Oven
- Pellet Grill
- Gas BBQ
- Charcoal Grill
- Charcoal Spit
Yes I know it's a bit much but I think of this as my sanctuary and want to cater for anything and don't want to be tied to using a particular BBQ appliancce.
I have the Pellet Grill covered but nothing else ATM (Sorry BBQ you'll have to go eventually)
I've drawn up an initial plan after several variations and this fits best for what I'd like to do:
So the equipment would be as follows:
- Pizza Oven in the corner with/
- Charcoal Grill and Charcoal Spit Combo (Looking at the Parilla style charcoal grill and spit)
- 4x Gas burner maybe with a side Burner if i have room
- YS640 Pellet Grill
- Enough bench space with possibly room for a sink and maybe a small bar fridge
- Room for my current butchers trolley.
It seems like everything may fit but but I'm going to have to do more detailed plans and work out how I'm going to build a pergola over the whole area that will no result in me getting smoked out and not be a fire hazard but will also protect from the wind.
Any thoughts or comments from forum members that have done their own outdoor bbq area build?

Wow looks great so far mate. got alot going in there! Will you be building everything in like a kitchen build? If so what u thinking of using frame wise? I'm almost done with mine and for a noob like me I found the timber frame to be quite easy. My build is the post below.

The only thing being built in will be the whole north side in the picture..
The plan is to enclose the gas burner in a brick structure, the bench will either be stainless steel or tiles, not sure which as yet but I want it to be weather proof so probably some sort of tile.

looking forward to seeing some pics when you get it started!

Looks great mate. Only thing I would change is the bench, make it the same depth as the butchers block so It flows nicely. Can't wait to see it come together

Airflow might be a concern. Do you plan to install some sort of rangehood/extraction to prevent the ceiling or underside roof structure from going black, greasing up etc?

Didn't really think about airflow in the roof design, will have to sketch up some ideas for where the extraction points need to go.Bear wrote:Airflow might be a concern. I'm thinking about a 2.5m height to the bottom of the ceiling then a triangle roof.
- Pizza Oven (The plan is to run the chimney up through the ceiling of the pergola)
- Pellet Grill (Based on the diagram I uploaded the chimney will be just on the edge of the marked out area so won't be an issue)
- Gas BBQ (Probably some sort of extraction fan cutout in the ceiling)
- Charcoal Grill (Will have to have a similar chimney to the pizza oven i think, don't really want direct head from the grill hitting the ceiling)
- Charcoal Spit (Same as charcoal grill)
