Looflighter vs mini blow torch
Can one use a looflighter (instead of those mini blow torches you see on MasterChef) for glazing and crisping up pork skin?
I guess the inverse is to use the mini food blow torch to light coals.
I don't want to have too many little gadgets lying around so if one can do both tasks well that'll be the one I get.

The Looftlighter makes great crackle!....don't think I'd use it for glazing though!

How 'mini' is the mini blow torch, is it the size of the ones that do creme brulee? If so, you would struggle to get a load of charcoal or heat beads going safely. I've got one of the blow torches that sit on top of a butane canister and it is really slow to light a pile heat beads.

Yes was thinking of the creme brulee style blow torches -- Lovey thanks for heads up on it's limitations.
So coals tick, crackle tick, but not glazing (say, a momofuku bo ssam) -- Chris, does glazing need a different kind of heat than crackling?

The Looft puts out 2000 degrees!....way too much heat for a sugar glaze.....also remember it puts out a fair wind at the same time, so forget caramelising castor sugar on a custard, you'll end up blowing most of it off! Something with a flame you can adjust would be better, like a burner on a can.

Seriously...does the looftlighter work for crackling?
