Do you have a cheap heat gun lying around? Works better than the looft IMO.beachbum1971 wrote:Shame, mine died yesterday and had to run out to get fire starters.
Anyone has other alternatives, I have flirted with the idea of a butane torch. Will have to keep it hidden from the boss however .......

Yeh but be careful not to melt the plastic casing on the heat gun by keeping it near the charcoal too long.Narmnaleg wrote: Do you have a cheap heat gun lying around? Works better than the looft IMO.
I'm guessing that might happen anyway

Re: Looftlighter recall?
The heat gun I sue had a plastic tip-cover that came off (it was just clipped on), so now all it has is a metal tip. The $20 gun is more powerful than the looft, so as soon as I get an ember I pull back on it and the fire quickly grows to the wanted size. I've been using it for a few years now and nothing has ever melted. On the other hand, the metal casing of the looft seemed to "disappear" over time.

I upgraded from the looft which I refunded (if yours died take it back for a refund)
Very happy with my replacement. Within a few mins I have crazy fire.

Something like this is what I had in mind ...... although I am pretty sure you would see a mushroom cloud over the house when the wife saw it.Santo wrote:I upgraded from the looft which I refunded (if yours died take it back for a refund)

I thought you had made that yourself!Santo wrote:Masters. Bernzomatic 850.
The 20 dollar masters discount coupon they are running for January alleviated the mushroom cloud from being cast over my house from my wife.
It's not showing in the website. How much was it?
She isn't concerned about the money, there was an incident a few years back with a little kitchen torch while giving some colour to a few creme brûlée. No one needed to go to the hospital so I really don't see why she continues to make a big deal out of it ...........

Re: Looftlighter recall?
I have the same weed torch. I bought it from (of all places) autobarn last summer - just before Xmas '13.
It was in the catalogue on sale, something like $40 including the (full) gas canister.
I've only used it for weeds (I run the chimney over the wok burner) but now I'm thinking.......
