Help with ID'ing this grill
Help with ID'ing this grill
Hey all,
I'm new to the forums and was wondering if I could get some help.
My brother won this BBQ Grill from a raffle - the most bizarre thing to win I've ever seen.
Anyway it's about 735mm x 430mm x 10mm and looks to have a powdercoated finish (I think).
It's got two handles, one on either side - so I'm thinking it's meant for a built in BBQ so you can take it off to light the fire underneath.
It's got a cutout of the Harley Davidson logo in the middle, so my main question is:
Is this thing custom made, or did Harley actually make stuff like this?
Any help you can give me would be muchly appreciated, materials, where it was made etc.
Here's a photo:
Thanks in advance guys,
Xav.

Haha yep, I'm in QLD alright.Percel wrote:if youre in Queenslnad hide it, or just have a bbq by yourself.
Will put some more photos up in a sec. I can't find a brand, or makers mark on it anywhere - except for the Harley Logo.
Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
Ive got no idea, but Im sure some tough bikers out there would like their asses branded with it.
Could be a little money spinner

Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
Awesome to have a huge 5kg rump roast on it having the HD sign branded on it...
Reckon you might get a lot of bids on ebay for that.
I think the BBQ brand in this instance would be irrelevant.
Cheers

Here are some more photos -
Side view showing the handles:
Underneath view, it looks like it's been cut off some sort of stand or something with the nubs ground down?
Underneath, a tiny bit of surface rust - this should be able to sanded out shouldn't it?
Top shot - again a small amount of surface rust on the edge.
Top shot of logo - I put the flash on up close to try and demonstrate the surface finish.
The problem I see with trying to get rid of it, is the weight and size. Postage would be a killer.
(I understand this isn't the trading section so I will go no further down that path in this thread).
Cheers for the replies.

Looks like Cast Iron.

Common Sense is so rare these days it should be a Super Power!
Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
Find a Harley forum and open for bids, I have a few mates would probably cross the country to pick it up
A lot of stuff gets the HD brand, not a bottle shop raffle was it?
Used to say a Harley was a great tourer, until you hit a corner - then a mate bought a soft tail... Um yeah, right tyres and that turns
To be serious looks like a distress sale from the closing club-houses, which possibly is either not serious enough or too much so
Cheers
Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
From the surface marks and the general finish I'd say it was injection moulded rather than sand cast, the grind marks may well be the injection points, the positions support this thought. This suggests some serious mass production considering the cost of a mould for it. Google could be your friend if searching for the origin.

It would come out mirror reversed, not that it would matter. Most Harley riders can't read.Davo wrote:Awesome to have a huge 5kg rump roast on it having the HD sign branded on it...

Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
Thanks for all the replies, I might chuck it on ebay I reckon. No idea what start price though, not sure how ebay works.
Cheers once again.

Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
Unless it's you there seem to be a couple on line at the moment, both EBay and Gumtree.
I spoke to a mad Harley mate of mine in the US last night, he said Harley episodically make them but not enough that they are in the store on line. Mostly they seem to go to cafes in the US so it's far from common in Australia.
The two on offer at the moment might give you a price guide but with auctions setting the reserve for a rarity can be difficult
If you happen to have a Hogs Breath anywhere near you could see if they are interested
Cheers

Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
If you want to sell it, get in touch with the owner of Fat Bobs' - they have heaps of American bling - www.fatbobs.com.au
Re: Help with ID'ing this grill
Thanks for that - so it does seem like this could be official Harley merch.
Chris, is there any chance you could private message me what to search for when I look for those other listings?
I don't know what search terms to use, it either turns up aprons and spachelors, or headlight grills
Thanks again for this info - I really appreciate it.
Cheers
