Brisbane BBQ places...

Post by vbthanks »

Gday BBQ'ers...

A couple of interesting cafes and restaurants in Brisbane are doing some great BBQ these days for those interested.
I'm not associated with any of these, but have dined at Pony who have a large pit in the centre of the restaurant.

Pony new lunch menu:
"Pit of the Day - Ironbark roasted"
"Ironbark Roasted Quail Salad"
"Wood Fired Lamb Salad"
"Wagyu Brisket Burger"

Monk and Grind Cafe Fortitude Valley are doing a "Pulled Pork Roll".

Brat Haus also in the Valley are doing real smoked german sausages.

Enjoy!

Looks interesting Gary. Beers are mighty pricey though. What's the joint that uses Kamado's on or around Southbank? CS

When in Brisbane I treat myself to Smoke in the valley. The beef ribs are fantastic, the sauce on them to die for. Even the side dishes are as good as the BBQ, the coleslaw and the onion rings........Having said that, I have to admit that it's the only BBQ low & slow, other than my own, that I've eaten. It's a bit isolated, culinary wise, in Nth Qld.

...the one you could be thinking of at South Bank is called the South Side Diner.

I'm definitely going in to try the skirt steak with blue cheese dressing!
...And the fried mozarella sticks and tequila tabasco oysters :D

There's one ticked off the list...

Just had the "Pulled Pork Panini" with BBQ sauce and slaw at the "Monk and Grind" cafe.
8/10 - very good. Little too much cumin in the BBQ sauce but it was good.

Going to try "Pit of the Day" at Pony next.

Tried to get to Brat Haus for some sausage but there is nowhere to park within miles.

I love a punt on the horses, so it's rare for me to go to Eagle Farm race track on a Sunday rather than a Saturday.
But that's when the Eagle Farm Markets are on!

There's an American guy and his mate who have a stand called "Wild Fire BBQ".
They are there every weekend and I drove 15k's just to test out their brisket roll with spicy slaw - it was bloody good!
I talked to them for a while and they use Kamados to cook their brisket and pork.

The couple behind me ordered pulled pork rolls and I saw them devouring them on the lawn - they looked happy!
Highly recommended if you like a Sunday stroll through the markets and some BBQ.

It looks like a new BBQ joint is about to open in Edward st, City - just near Mary St. Anyone know what that place is / is going to be?

Hi Gary,
I think it's going to be run by the blokes who have the stand at Eagle Farm Markets on Sundays. They told me they were opening up soon and put me on their email list.

Been hearing and reading some indifferent reports about Mighty Mighty...
