Don't Drink & Brine..

Post by I eat vegetarians. »

I like salt.

Love it actually.

But holy shite I think I got my Tablespoons mixed up with my Front End Loader buckets when I brined up a beautiful pork rack last night.

What a waste of time, money & meat. Pretty much in edible to all but me.

Think I'll mix my quantities sober next time!!

Ooooh....nasty.

Ruined a big bowl of mashed pumpkin once when I mixed up the nutmeg jar with the powdered chilli.

The folks were not amused. :|

If you realize you perhaps made a mistake before you cook it, a cold water soak with some potato slices in it will pull quite a bit of salt out. A small slice fry test, like one would do on sausage before stuffing would let you know. Sorry about the meat... we have ALL mucked up stuff before. And are probably not done doing it either :D

LOL , Yeh I do it, Salt is the bain as Its so easy to screw up.
I learned that one heaped table spoon is actually TWO table spoons
I also learned NEVER throw in that "Extra Bit" just to make sure.
Actually, I never learned it because I still bloody do it

That's why weighing it is some much safer

I bought one of these mini digital scales

more for the nitrite mixing but works for everything, put a small bowl on

Agreed. I have been converting all my stuff to weight. And the rubs and brines formulas..without saying HAVE to be in mass. Yes..grams are mass, not weight. heh!
